Different kind of email today.

My 7-year-old started a little business. She picked something to sell, made it, and sold it. Then she found out she didn't get to keep all the money.

She was not happy about that.

So we sat down and I walked her through it. What came in, what it cost to make, and what was actually left. Revenue, expenses, profit. Same conversation I've had with grown adults running six figure businesses who have never once done that math.

Watching her work it out reminded me of a few things I think most people building a business need to hear:

  • Sell something people already want. Don't invent demand, find it.

  • The money that comes in is not the money you keep. Know the difference early.

  • When nobody buys, that's information, not failure.

  • Put some of it back in. That's how the thing grows instead of just paying you once.

  • Business is really just helping someone with something they needed help with.

That last one is the whole game. She got it faster than I did at 30.

If you want to watch the conversation, it's here:

If you've got kids, this one might be worth watching with them.

Let's build. 🦁
