Edit your PDFs and docs right inside Gemini

Image: Google
Google says you can now make, preview and edit files without leaving your Gemini chat. Before, you had to download a file or open another app to fix it.
The details:
It works with PDFs, Google Docs, Sheets, slide decks, Markdown, text files and code.
You can open a file full screen and type your changes yourself.
You can highlight a part and ask Gemini a question or ask it to change it.
PDFs work on the web and on your phone. The other file types are web only for now.
It is open to all Gemini users, in every language Gemini supports, says Google Workspace Updates.
What it means for you: Handouts, checklists, trackers and slide decks can go from idea to finished file in one chat, with no copy and paste.
AI AND YOUR WEBSITE
OPENAI + ANTHROPIC
One line may soon keep your site out of AI training

Image: IETF Datatracker
OpenAI backed a new web standard that lets site owners say no to AI training with one robots.txt rule. An Anthropic standards lead wrote the draft.
The details:
The rule is
User-Agent: __usage_ai-trainingplusDisallow: /.Today, you have to block each AI company one by one.
The Verge reports OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft back it.
Anthropic already uses it. Google and Microsoft plan to next year, and OpenAI says in the "coming months."
It is a preference, not a lock. Microsoft says your site still shows up in Bing search.
What it means for you: If you post your own guides or courses online, you will soon have one simple switch for AI training.
TRY THIS TODAY
How to turn messy notes into a clean PDF
Google's own example is a study guide made from handwritten notes. Here is a simple way to try it.
Open the Gemini app or go to gemini.google.com.
Snap a photo of your notes, or paste them in.
Ask: "Turn these notes into a one page PDF checklist with clear headings."
When the file shows up, open it full screen.
Fix any words by typing right in the file.
Highlight a part and ask Gemini to shorten it or turn it into a table.
Download it when it looks right.
On your phone, stick to PDFs. Docs, Sheets and slides need the web for now. Google's post has more examples.
TOOLS WORTH A LOOK

QUICK HITS
Use Cursor? Check this one thing
A fake Claude Code add on (versions 2.1.312 and 2.1.313) was in Cursor's marketplace on October 29, from about 3:27 AM to 2:35 PM MT, on Mac and Windows. It tried to plant a back door. Cursor says removing it may not be enough, so run the quick check on its page.
ChatGPT now lets you switch accounts
You can stay signed in to two accounts, like work and personal, each with its own chats and memory. On the web, open your account menu. On your phone, go to Settings, then Switch account.
Claude Max 20x is now called Ultra
Same $200 a month price, and you are moved over on your own. The $100 plan is now just called Max.

Paste this into Gemini with your notes:
Turn my notes below into a one page PDF. Use short headings, a checklist for each step, and plain words a 12 year old would get. Then list anything that looks missing. Then open the file full screen and make it yours.
